August 2026 Dump featuring BTS (Part 1). And School.
Y'all, I'm tired. August was long and there was a lot going on, good and bad and in the middle. Let's start with the bad.
Being a woman is hard and you sometimes have unexpected health issues. IYKYK.
Now, the in the middle.
School started, both for teaching and my online classes at the University of Memphis. Let's start with teaching. I'm at a new school, and I was hired to be an auxiliary teacher that does small groups, push-ins, etc. And for one glorious day of in-service, I was an auxiliary teacher. And then we still needed an 8th grade ELA teacher and here we are. It's fine. Behavior is a major focus (thankfully) and my classes are way smaller than I've had in the past. But just in general, I am feeling less and less invested and hopeful about the state of public education. So this is just a general reminder to hold your children (if you have them) accountable for their actions and hold your elected officials accountable. Get out and vote when it's time.
And as for my online classes, they just started last week, so I'm still getting used to them. It's a fair amount of work, but the content is interesting enough. I'm taking an accounting class and two economics classes. And one thing I will say is that the learning is vastly different from anything I ever had in my education classes, and even my history and English major classes. That's obvious in hindsight, but I never expected that it needed to be explicitly stated that all of our choices are interdependent and that you should be an ethical person. I'm a teacher. Duh, everything affects everything else. You can't just base a child on one thing or one interaction. Every day, every moment is different. As for the ethics part, we have certain trainings we do every year, but the inherent assumption is that we are all here to do what's best for the kids. I guess the same kind of assumption cannot be made in the corporate world. Please let me know if I'm wrong.
But anyway, onto the good.
I saw BTS in Dallas! The drive down was long, the drive back was long, and traffic/parking was a nightmare. But the concert was 1000% worth it. Even in our nose-bleed seats, the group still made everyone feel included in the concert. And seeing the choreography in person really emphasizes the amount of hip flexibility they have. I'm very excited to see them again in Los Angeles.
Speaking of Los Angeles, I leave tomorrow and I still have approximately 1 million things to do. So wish me luck with that. I hope everyone enjoys the following pictures and has a great month.
